SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 71 of 2018
(Enacting 2.06.070,Annual Salary of City Council Members)
An ordinance enacting Chapter 2.06.070 (Annual Salary) of the Salt Lake City Code to
set forth the annual salary for each City Council Member, beginning in January 2019.
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to set the annual salary of its members at 25 percent
of the Mayor's annual salary, to reinstate the Council's standard of a 4:1 ratio between the salary
of the Mayor and the City Council Members.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. Enacting Salt Lake City Code Section 2.06.070,
Section 2.06.070 shall be, and hereby is, enacted to read as follows:
2.06.070 ANNUAL SALARY
As of January 13, 2019, the annual salary for each city council member will be 25 percent of the
mayor's annual salary as of January 13, 2019. At the beginning of each future fiscal year, the
annual salary for each member of the city council will be adjusted, as necessary,to equal at least
25 percent of the mayor's annual salary for that future fiscal year. However, if the mayor's
annual salary decreases, or does not increase, in any particular future fiscal year, then each city
council member's salary will remain what it was in the previous fiscal year.
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall become effective on January 13,
2019.

2018 and was returned to the City Recorder on December 14, 2018 unsigned. This
provided for the ordinance to become effective on January 13, 2019 without the
Mayor's signature.
Pursuant to Utah State Code 10-3B-204(4) an ordinance, tax levy, or appropriation
passed by the Council takes effect upon recording as provide in Chapter 3, Part 7,
Municipal Ordinances, Resolutions, and Procedure, if: (b) the Mayor fails to sign
the ordinance, tax levy, or appropriation within 15 days after the Council presents
the ordinance, tax levy, or appropriation to the Mayor.
