SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 89 of 1997
(Nondiscrimination in Employment)
AN ORDINANCE ENACTING SECTION 2.52.255, OF THE SALT LAKE
CITY CODE, RELATING TO NONDISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 2.52.255 of the Salt Lake City Code be,
and the same hereby is, enacted to read as follows:
Section 2.52.255. Nondiscrimination in Employment.
A. Discrimination in Employment is Prohibited. Employment
practices and decisions within the Salt Lake City Government shall be made
using valid job -related criteria and standards. Discrimination against an
otherwise qualified employee or applicant based on race, color, national
origin, sex, religion, age, sexual orientation, or disability is prohibited.
B. Permitted Practices. It is not a prohibited practice under this
section to observe the terms and conditions of any bona fide employment
benefit plan such as a retirement, pension or insurance plan.
C. Affirmative Action Not Required. Nothing in this section shall
be construed as requiring affirmative action on the basis of sexual
orientation.
D. Noncompliance. The Division of Human Resource Management
shall establish appropriate grievance procedures to investigate and resolve
alleged violations of this section. Retaliation or harassment against a person
because a person filed a claim or participated in an investigation under this
section is prohibited.
Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall become effective
on the date of its first publication.
