SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 89 of 1998
(Prohibiting skateboarding in the
Sugar House Traffic District)
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING SKATEBOARDING AND OTHER
SIMILAR ACTIVITIES IN THE SUGAR HOUSE TRAFFIC DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the existing City Code prohibits skateboarding
in the Central Traffic District; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is now desirous of extending
those prohibitions to the Sugar House Traffic District; and
WHEREAS, it appears that these modifications to the
Salt Lake City Code are in the best interest of the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of
Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 12.12.070 of the Salt Lake City
Code shall be and hereby is amended to read as follows:
12.12.070 Skateboards and other toy vehicles.
A. No person upon roller skates, roller blades,
in -line skates, or riding in or by means of any
coaster, sled, toy wagon, scooter, skateboard or
similar device shall go upon any roadway except
while crossing such roadway on a crosswalk or when
utilizing an established bicycle lane on a public
roadway, and when doing so said person shall be
subject to all of the duties applicable to
pedestrians. This Section shall not apply on any
street while set aside as a play street, as
authorized by Section 12.32.070, or its successor
of this title.
B. No person upon roller skates, roller blades,
in -line skates, or riding in or by means of any
coaster, sled, toy wagon, scooter, skateboard or
similar device shall go upon any sidewalk or other
public property within the Central Traffic
District, as defined in Section 12.04.090, or its
successor, of the Traffic Code and made a part
hereof by reference, or on any other area where
prohibited by signs.
C. No person upon roller skates, roller blades,
in -line skates, or riding in or by means of any
coaster, sled, toy wagon, scooter, skateboard or
similar device shall go upon any sidewalk or other
public property within the Sugar House Traffic
District, as defined in Section 12.04.95, or its
successor, of the Traffic Code and made a part
hereof by reference, or on any other area where
prohibited by signs.
D. The foregoing subsections A, B and C of this
Section shall not apply to police officers acting
in the scope and course of their employment.
SECTION 2. Chapter 12.04.095 of the Salt Lake City
Code shall be and hereby is enacted to read as follows:
12.04.095 Sugar House Traffic District.
" Sugar House Traffic District" means all streets
and portions of streets within the areas described
in Schedule 1.5, attached hereto and set out in
Chapter 12.104 of this title.
SECTION 3. Schedule 1.5 of Chapter 12.104 of the Salt
Lake City Code shall be and hereby is enacted to read as
follows:

SUGAR HOUSE TRAFFIC DISTRICT
2100 South from 800 East to 1300 East.
1100 East/Highland Drive from Hollywood Avenue to
Sugarmont Drive.
SECTION 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take
effect upon the date of its first publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
17th day of November , 1998.
