RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT
REGIONAL URBAN DESIGN ASSISTANCE TEAM
Resolution No. 10 , of 1988
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has a tradition of planning dating back to its
founding in 1847 by Brigham Young, which is seen in the wide streets
and commanding vistas of the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt
Lake; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City's well-organized, spacious city plan is unique in the
world and is one of the elements that gives visitors and residents
of Salt Lake City a sense of place; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Palmer DePaulis has formed an executive committee to study
downtown Salt Lake to develop a master plan, the proposed R/UDAT
process being a valuable key to assisting the committee within an
overall planning framework, bringing together the active planning
and community groups, thus forming a network that will establish
common goals and objectives as the basis of the new Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, The area identified by the committee for study is generally bordered
by North Temple Street, 900 South Street, 700 East Street and 400
West Street, which defines the core of the central business district
and includes Block 57, currently the focus of the downtown
Redevelopment Agency and the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Salt Lake City Council endorses and
supports a Regional Urban Design Assistance Team for downtown Salt
Lake City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council thanks the American Institute of
Architects and the Regional Urban Design Assistance Team steering
committee for making this planning effort available to Salt Lake
City.

Special Recognition
The Council considered a resolution of support for the
Regional Urban Design Assistance Team. Councilmember Kirk read the
resolution which endorsed and supported a Regional Urban Design
Assistance Team for downtown Salt Lake City. The resolution also
thanked the American Institute of Architects and the Regional Urban
Design Assistance Team steering committee for making this planning
effort available to Salt Lake City.
Councilmember Fonnesbeck moved and Councilmember Horrocks
seconded to adopt Resolution 10 of 1988 supporting the Regional Urban
Design Assistance Team, which motion carried, all members voted aye.
