A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE
CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH
Resolution No. 124 of 1988
WHEREAS, The arts and humanities are central to human expression;
and
WHEREAS, Our identity as a people and a nation is expressed through
the arts and `nu amities. and
WHEREAS, Support of the arts and humanities has been a partnership
of Federal, State and local government entities, business
and individuals; and
WHEREAS, A congressionally declared Naiontal Arts Week, in November
provides a focal point to celebrate she diverse cultural
heritage of the United States and the vitality of writers,
visual artists and perforoers; and
WHEREAS, The arts and humanities provide an opportunity for the
public to participate Yvith artists, scholars and educators
in the exploration of our culture, values and traditions;
and
WHEREAS, To brim: `together, in the national spirit, the public and
private sectors in support and celebration of the arts
and humanities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council and Mayor Palmer
DePaulis of Salt Lake City, Utah, that they do hereby declare
the month of November in the year 1988 as "Salt Lake City
Arts and Humanities Month" and call upon all citizens to
observe such month with appropriate programs and activites.

Councilmember Godfrey read a joint resolution declaring the month of
November, 1988, as Salt Lake City Arts and Humanities Month, and called
upon all citizens to observe the month with appropriate programs and
activities. He said the arts and humanities were central to human expres-
sion, and a congressionally declared National Arts Week in November had
provided a focal point to celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of the
United States and the vitality of writers, visual artists and performers.
Councilmember Godfrey moved and Councilmember Hardman seconded to
adopt Resolution 124 of 1988, declaring the month of November, 1988, as
Salt Lake City Arts and Humanities Month, which motion carried, all members
voted aye.
