Authorizing Salt Lake City
To Apply for a Grant Award From
The Utah Quality Growth Commission
LeRay McAllister Critical Land Conservation Fund 2011
WHEREAS, the Utah Quality Growth Commission offers grants under its LeRay
McAllister Critical Land Conservation Fund 2011; and
WHEREAS, the City has developed the Wasatch Hollow Open Space
Coniprehensive Restoration, Use, and Management Plan,which captured the five major
goals established through a community-based structured decision making process to
include: 1) restore and protect the Emigration Creek Riparian Corridor and surrounding
open space, 2) establish clearly defined boundaries to prevent encroachment and foster
respect for public and private lands, 3)provide controlled public access that is informed
primarily by ecological goals, 4) increase safety by reducing risks on both public and
private land and 5) foster cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders in
stewardship of Wasatch Hollow to ensure sustainable long term management and which
could be accomplished through the production of a forinal design plan and engineering
specifications used to guide the implementation of the restoration of the riparian corridor
of Wasatch Hollow; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Services has adequate capability within its
budget to provide the amount of funding and/or in-kind contributions, specified in the
funding plan, which will be subject to City Council approval; and
WHEREAS, through the Utah Quality Grown Commission's LeRay McAllister
Critical Land Conservation Fund 2011, the cost of the services of a riparian corridor
restoration design consultant could be funded thereby reducing the City's expenditure for
the project.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Salt Lake City,
Utah,as follows:
1. Salt Lake City Council has reviewed and supports the proposal submitted for
Phase II of the Wasatch Hollow Open Space Restoration.
2. Salt Lake City Corporation/Salt Lake City Department of Public Services is
capable of providing the amount of funding and/in kind contributions
specified in the funding plan as totaling$26,817.
3. If selected for a LeRay McAllister Critical Land Conservation Fund 2011
grant award,Ralph Becker,Mayor of Salt Lake City,Utah,or his designee,
shall have the authority to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Utah
Quality Growth Comission,upon appropriate review and approval of the City
Council.
