AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance designating and setting aside a certain portion of
Salt Lake City as a residence district; and _preventing the erection,
construction, operation or maintenance of certain businesses therein.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby designated and set aside as a
residence district the following portion of Salt Lake City, to -wit:
Beginning at a point fifteen feet east of the northwest corner
of Block 38, Plat "C", Salt Lake City Survey, running thence
directly south along a line fifteen feet east of the east line of
Seventh ''dent Street to the south line of Thirteenth South Street;
thence continuing southerly following the boundary line of Salt
Lake City Cornora.tion to the south line of Seventeenth South Street;
thence west along the south line of Seventeenth South Street to the
east bank of the Jordan River; thence northerly along the east bank
of the Jordan River to the south line. of Second South Street; thence
oast along the south line of Second South Street to the place of
beginning.
SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful to erect, construct, operate
or maintain within the district described in Section 1 of this
ordinance, any packing house, tannery, rendery, bone factory,
slaughlser house, butcher shop, soap factory, foundry, brea,ery,
distillery, livery stable, blacksmith shop, warehouse, coal yards,
railroad tracks or industrial plant; provided, however, that such
industrial plants as are on the date of the passage of this ordi-
nance in actual operation shall not be subject to the provisions
thereof.
SECTION 3. Any person /iolating any of the provisions of

this ordinance, shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a
fine in any sum not exceeding Y 100.00, or by imprisonment in the
City Jail for a perioa not exceeding sixty days. The court may in
imposing a fine enter as part of the judgment, that in default of
the payment of the fine, the defendant may be imprisoned in the
City Jail for a period not exceeding sixty days.
Each day's operation or maintenance of any of the plants or
businesses mentioned in Section 2 of this ordinance shall be
construed to be a separate offense.
SECTIO1 4. This ordinance shall take effect thirty-one days
after its passage.
