RESOLUTION NO. 99 OF 1983
(Endorsing the $33,500,000 Salt Lake County Bond Election
to be held December 13, 1983)
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE $33,500,000 SALT LAKE
COUNTY BOND ELECTION AND URGING THE SUPPORT OF THE VOTERS OF SALT LAKE CITY.
WHEREAS, the flooding in the spring of 1983 created major storm
systems damage to the City Creek drainage system, the Parley's Creek drainage
system, the Emigration drainage system, and the Red Butte drainage system in
Salt Lake City; and
WHEREAS, the flood fighting efforts of Salt Lake City, its
employees and its citizens, contributed greatly to minimize private property
damage at the expense of public property damage; and
WHEREAS, costs incurred in both flood fighting and storm drainage
systems repair will require revenues greater than anticipated through either
federal , state, or local funding sources; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake County has proposed a $33,500,000 bond issue
to cover an accelerated five—year capital improvement program as well as
those costs incurred directly as a result of the flooding in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake County has indicated as a part of its bond
issue that the current mill levy for flood control purposes would not increase
and, should the bond issue not pass, a potential six to seven mill increase
might be necessary in 1984;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council
hereby endorse and support this bond issue and urge the voters of Salt Lake
City to support it at the county—wide bond election scheduled for
December 13, 1983.
