BUDGET IMPACT: Grant Holding Account ($ 90,000.00) New Grant Project 90,000.00 BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: The grant holding account was established to fund grants between budget amendments with the understanding that the grants would be submitted as part of the next budget opening. Items transmitted are placed on a Council Consent agenda and then formally approved during the following budget amendment. On occasion, a similar process is employed for donations to the City. Where necessary, resolutions were previously passed authorizing the Mayor to sign and accept these grants and donations. Grants $75,000.00 Marathon Petroleum Foundation Department: Community & Neighborhoods Prepared By: Amy Dorsey The Division of Youth & Family Services requested $75,000 to purchase one 14-passenger van for YouthCity Northwest Teen. The van used is for the transport of YouthCity Northwest Teen participants from neighborhood middle schools and high schools to the Northwest Community Center, which is the site for YouthCity Northwest Teen. No match is required. A public hearing was held for this grant application on 4/18/2023 G-2: Hispanic Latinx Entrepreneurship, National League of Cities Misc. Grants $15,000.00 Department: CAN/Economic Development Prepared By: Jacob Maxwell/Ann Garcia Economic Development will move forward in addressing the barriers to entrepreneurship identified by the Suazo Business Center study "State of Latino Businesses in Salt Lake City." Commissioned by the department, the study identified issues related to City policies, procedures, and digital access among the Latino business community. The Division of Economic Development will hire a consultant to review City practices and resources and engage with City stakeholders to determine feasible solutions to create a more equitable process for minority -owned small businesses and entrepreneurs. Additional barriers found by the study are language access, cultural limitation, the digital divide, and an understanding of the City government's role, process, and expectations.
