7 An ordinance amending various sections of Title 2 1 A of the Salt Lake City Code pursuant
8 to Petition No. PLNPCM2023-00996 pertaining to the particular sign type "projecting business
9 storefront" sign in commercial and mixed-use zoning districts.
10 WHEREAS, on February 14, 2024, the Salt Lake City Planning Commission ("Planning
11 Commission")held a public hearing to consider a petition submitted by Mayor Erin Mendenhall
12 to amend various sections of Title 2 1 A of the Salt Lake City Code pertaining to standards
13 regulating projecting business storefront signs in commercial and mixed-use zoning districts
14 pursuant to Petition No. PLNPCM2023-00996; and
15 WHEREAS, at its February 14, 2024 meeting, the Planning Commission voted in favor
16 of transmitting a positive recommendation to the Salt Lake City Council ("City Council") on said
17 petition; and
18 WHEREAS, after a public hearing on this matter the City Council has determined that
19 adopting this ordinance is in the city's best interests.
20 NOW, THEREFORE,be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
21 SECTION 1. Amending the text of Subsection 21A.46.070.C. That Subsection
22 21A.46.070.0 of the Salt Lake City Code (Zoning: Signs: General Standards) shall be, and
23 hereby is amended to read as follows:
24 C. Clearance Between Sign and Ground: A minimum clearance of te*eight feet(44 8')
25 shall be provided between the ground and the bottom of any pole,projecting sign or flag.

26 SECTION 2. Amending the text of Subsection 21A.46.070.J. That Subsection
27 21A.46.070.J of the Salt Lake City Code (Zoning: Signs: General Standards) shall be, and hereby
28 is amended to read as follows:
29 J. Signs on Public Property: Except for portable signs authorized pursuant to Section
30 21A.46.055 of this chapter, no sign shall be located on publicly owned land or inside street rights
31 of way, except signs erected by permission of an authorized public agency..., or the city pursuant
32 to the citY's right of way encroachment policy.

34 SECTION 3. Amending the text of Subsection 21A.46.070.K.2. That Subsection
35 21A.46.070.K.2 of the Salt Lake City Code (Zoning: Signs: General Standards) shall be, and
36 hereby is amended to read as follows:

44 21A.46.080.0 of the Salt Lake City Code (Zoning: Signs: Sign Regulations for Residential
45 Districts: Sign Regulations for the RB and RO Districts) shall be, and hereby is amended to read
46 as follows:

49 1. Purpose: The purpose of sign regulations for the RB and RO districts is to
50 establish standards that allow for modest commercial signage while protecting the
51 predominant residential character of these districts.
52 2. Applicability: Regulations in subsections C3 and C5 of this section, respectively,
53 shall apply to all uses within the RB and RO districts. These regulations apply to each lot,
54 regardless of the number of buildings on a lot.
