(Amending City Code 2.06.070, "City Council Annual Salary", to include a Leadership Stipend)
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Council ("Council") is a co-equal branch of government
to the Mayor, and each Council Member spends significant time on City business.
WHEREAS, Council leadership, specifically the Council Chair and Vice Chair, and the
Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency ("RDA") Chair and Vice Chair, spend an additional
significant amount of time on City business and leadership of the Council and RDA.
WHEREAS, the Council has concluded it is in the best interest of the City to provide
leadership stipends on an annual basis, to the Chair and Vice Chair of both the Council and the
RDA.
NOW THEREFORE, the Salt Lake City Council ordains as follows:
SECTION 1. AMENDING CITY CODE 2.06.070. Salt Lake City Code Section 2.06.070
is hereby amended as follows, to include Section B, "Leadership Stipend", shown in bold:
2.06.070: ANNUAL SALARY:
A.As of January 13, 2019, the annual salary for each City Council member will be twenty
five percent (25%) of the Mayor's annual salary as of January 13, 2019. At the beginning
of each future fiscal year, the annual salary for each member of the City Council will be
adjusted, as necessary, to equal at least twenty five percent (25%) of the Mayor's annual
salary for that future fiscal year. However, if the Mayor's annual salary decreases, or does
not increase, in any particular future fiscal year, then each City Council member's salary
will remain what it was in the previous fiscal year.
B.Council Members who serve in leadership positions on the Council will each earn
an annual leadership stipend, as follows:

i.Council Chair: $3,000
ii.Council Vice Chair: $2,000
iii.Redevelopment Agency Chair: $1,500
iv.Redevelopment Agency Vice Chair: $1,000
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall become effective upon
publication.
