S-Line Extension Project Overview
•UTA, in collaboration with SLC Transportation and CRA, is
extending Sugar House Streetcar (S-Line) to the east, from
current end of line at Fairmont Station across Highland Dr. to
private property at Sugar House Shopping Center.
•Awarded state funds, including a legislative appropriation
and TTIF funding

•The Interlocal Cooperation Agreement includes the terms
and conditions for the implementation of the S-Line
Extension project.
•The agreement addresses the alignment and use of Salt Lake
City Streets for the project.
•It also identifies the terms for the ownership, operations,
and maintenance of the S-Line Extension project.
•ILA contributors and reviewers for SLC: Transportation, CRA,
Public Utilities, Engineering, Urban Services, and Public
Lands, along with all corresponding attorneys.
S-Line Extension Funding
•Total Project Budget: $43,567,129
•One-Time State Funding (2021 HB 433 ): $12,000,000
•Transit Transportation Investment Fund (TTIF): $18,900,000
•Local Match: $12,667,129
•Salt Lake City Property Donation: $5,140,070
•UTA In-Kind Contribution of a Light Rail Vehicle (Rehabilitation of Vehicle
1137): $2,530,000
•UTA Funding: $3,750,000
•Funding is included in the 2026 Approved Capital Budget (MSP259)
•Salt Lake City Funding: $395,000
•Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency: $852,059
S-Line Extension Timeline
•Construction anticipated to begin May 2026, pending ILA
approval by all parties, and approval of UTA contractor Phase
2 Construction agreement.
•Approximately 13-month construction period.
•Anticipated service start date in August 2027.
