BOX 145476, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH 84114-5476 SLCCOUNCIL.COM TEL 801-535-7600 FAX 801-535-7651 COUNCIL STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL of SALT LAKE CITY TO:City Council Members FROM: Nick Tarbet Deputy Director DATE:March 24, 2026 RE:Proposed Disposition of Airport Property: 840 South Gladiola Street Reminder: SLC Airport Noise Property Disposition ISSUE AT-A-GLANCE The Department of Airports proposes to sell the property at 840 south Gladiola Street which was purchased in 1987 with FAA funds for acquiring residential properties in areas with high noise exposure. The property was acquired contingent upon the City allowing the then-current owner to lease back the property. The lessee, however, is no longer living in the home and the airport is ready to sell it. Both adjacent property owners have expressed interest in purchasing the property. Since the property was purchased with FAA funds, it must be sold at fair market value. The property is approximately 0.95 acres. The Council’s role in this process is outlined in 2.58.040 Sale of Significant Parcels of real property. When a significant parcel of city property is sold, at least one public hearing must be held for the public to comment on the proposal. The Airport board is one of the city entities listed that may hold a public hearing. That hearing was held on February 22, 2026. No one spoke during the hearing. In addition to this public hearing, The City Council may request a second public hearing. The request must be submitted to the Mayor’s Office no less than fifteen days after delivery of notice about the potential sale of property is delivered to the City Council. The Council received a transmittal on February 26 stating the intent to sell the property. On Wednesday, March 3, at the direction of the Council Chair and Vice-Chair, Council staff made the official request for a second public hearing. Schedule: Page | 2 The public hearing is set for Tuesday, March 24. The Council does not take any formal action other than to hold the hearing. The mayor or their designee shall attend to “hear and consider comments upon the proposal to convey the property” (2.58.040D). The motion sheet will provide the options to either close or continue the public hearing. Goal of the Public Hearing: For the Council to hold a second public hearing giving the public the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed disposition of airport property.
