No. 25 of 1982
(Curfew for minors)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 32-7-4 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, RELATING TO CURFEW FOR
MINORS.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 32-7-4 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to curfew for minors, be,
and the same hereby is, amended as follows:
Sec. 32-7-4. On streets at unreasonable hours prohibited.
(1) It shall be unlawful for any minor under fourteen years of
age to remain or loiter on any of the sidewalks, streets, alleys
or public places in Salt Lake City between ten p.m. (or eleven
p.m. daylight savings time when daylight savings time is in force
and effect and five a.m. immediately following.
(2) It shall be unlawful for any minor under eighteen years
of age to remain or loiter on any of the sidewalks, streets,
alleys or public places in Salt Lake City between twelve midnight
(or one a.m. daylight savings time when daylight savings time is
in force and effect and five a.m, immediately following.
(3) It shall be unlawful for any parent, guardian or other
person having legal care and custody of any minor dealt with
respectively in paragraphs (1) and (2) of this section to allow
or permit any such minor to remain or loiter on any of the
sidewalks, streets, alleys or public places in said city within
the times provided in said paragraphs (1) and (2) respectively of
this section, except as provided in paragraph 4.
(4) The provisions of paragraphs (1), (2) and (3) of this
section shall not apply where the minors dealt with respectively
in said paragraphs (1) and (2) are:
(a) Married;
(b) Accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other adult
person having the care and custody of said minor;
(c) Returning home from, going to or being in
attendance at any religious or school function, organized
dance, theater, sports event or other such associational
activity; provided, however that going to or from such
activity shall be by a direct route and within a reasonable
time of the commencement or termination of such event;
(d) Engaged in legitimate employment and can produce
evidence of such employment;
(e) In a motor vehicle engaged in normal travel, while
traveling to, from or through the city on an interstate
trip; or
(f) Within the immediate vicinity of such minor's
residence.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days after
its first publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah,
