I am also vetoing a motion passed by the Council to reduce the Garbage Enterprise Fund by $270 , 000 eliminating a reserve fund for the replacement of garbage packers and cans . My reasons for the vetoes are the following : First, it creates a funding deficit of approximately $540, 000 for fiscal year 1989-90 and encumbers future budgets already stretched to the limit ; Second , the fee reductions are financed at the expense of a fund earmarked to replace garbage cans and trucks ; r r _ . Chairperson Thomas Godfrey and Salt Lake City Council Members June 10, 1988 Page 2 Third , reducing these fees may very likely lead to a property tax increase ; and Fourth and finally , it is contrary to the policy direction established by the Council last year . Sincerely , Mayor PD/lc
