(Wrecker Service Vehicle Storage )
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 20-32-2 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, RELATING TO STORAGE
AREAS USED BY INDEPENDENT WRECKER SERVICES.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City , Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Section 20-32-2 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City , Utah, be, and the same hereby is amended to
read as follows :
Sec. 20-32-2 . License.
( 1 ) Policy.
( a) ,Salt Lake City Council determines that it is in the
public interest to allow all properly licensed companies or
persons to register as a wrecker towing service with the
City, to tow vehicles involved in accidents or other situa-
tions, where a vehicle is subject to being towed , on a
rotating basis.
(b) The City determines that all persons have a right
and an expectation that when a vehicle is subject to or
requires a tow under direct City supervision or direction,
that the vehicle will not be moved to a place greatly in
excess of the City limits of Salt Lake City Corporation,
without the consent of the owner or operator of the vehicle
to be towed .

( 2 ) A license, as provided in Section 20-32-1 of this
chapter, shall be issued upon application to the Salt Lake City
License Assessor and upon a sufficient showing that:
( a ) The prospective licensee has made arrangements for
a vehicle storage facility which is within the Salt Lake
City corporate limits or within Salt Lake County and within
three miles outside the nearest corporate limit of said
city. No vehicle may be moved to a location which is not
within Salt Lake City limits or within Salt Lake County and
within three miles outside the nearest corporate limit of
said city , without the prior consent of the owner or
operator of the vehicle. Said storage facility must be
completely enclosed by a fence of at least six feet in
height and properly secured so as to minimize the hazard of
theft and vandalism. A violation if this section shall be
grounds for immediate termination of the permit granted by
this chapter.

(g ) The licensee shall respond to the scene within 15
minutes of the call. Failure of the licensee to respond
within 15 minutes may result in cancellation of the call and

placement with another licensee. Failure of a licensee to
meet the 15-minute response time five times within a 12-
month period shall be grounds for termination of the permit
granted by this chapter.
(h) All wrecking service operators licensed pursuant
to this chapter shall file a schedule of charges with the
police department. No charges may be made by any wrecking
service operator in excess of the charges said operator has
on file with the police department. A violation shall be
grounds for immediate termination of the permit granted by
this chapter.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
