AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 7 OF TITLE 5 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965 BY ADDING A NEW SECTION
15 THERETO RELATING TO MASONRY.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt rake City Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 7 of Title 5 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, be, and the same hereby is
amended by adding a new Section 15 thereto, relating to masonry,
to read as follows:
Sec. 5-7-15. Masonry. The following Sections of Chapter
24, 1982 Edition of the Uniform Building Code are amended to read
as follows:
(a) Section 2404 (c) 3. shall read as follows:
3. Assumed ultimate compressive strenqth. When the
design strength f'm is not established by prism tests as in
paragraph 2., f'm may be assumed as:

Footnotes:
1 . Compressive strength of solid units is based on gross
area. Compressive strength of hollow units is based on minimum
net area.
2 . ASTM C270 - Mortar for Unit Masonry, Proportion
Specification, Portland cement and hydrated lime mortar mixture,
only.
3 . Intermediate values may be interpolated.
4. These assumed values of f'm shall be verified by prism
tests in accordance with Section 2404 (c) 2 prior to and during
construction.
(b) Section 2417 (j ) 2. (Stresses) is amended so that the
definition of "h" as given in the formula is as follows :
h = effective heights or length in inches between supporting
or enclosing members (vertical or horizontal stiffening
elements) .
(c ) Section 2417 (j ) 3. (Reinforcement) is amended by
changing the final sentence of the fourth paragraph to read as
follows :
The bars required by this paragraph shall be in addition to
the minimum reinforcement elsewhere required, unless the bars are
continuous from support to support in the direction of the
bending.
(d ) Section 2417 (k) 2. (Allowable loads ) is amended so that
the definition of "h" as given in the formula is as follows :
h = effective height in inches
