SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 55 of 1988
(Amending Sections 17.08. 100 and 11.48.060, and
Repealing Section 17.08. 110 Dealing with Firearms
and Hunting Restrictions in City Creek Canyon;
and, Discharge of Firearms in City Creek Canyon)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SALT LAKE CITY CODE SECTION 17.08. 100
AND REPEALING SECTION 17.08. 110 DEALING WITH FIREARMS AND HUNTING
RESTRICTIONS IN CITY CREEK CANYON, AND AMENDING SECTION 11 .48.060
DEALING WITH THE DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS.
WHEREAS, the City regulation of firearms in areas allowed by
the State of Utah for hunting must be consistent with State
Statute;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah,
hereby adopts the following amendments to the Salt Lake City
Code.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Section 17.08. 100 is AMENDED to read as
follows:
Sec. 17.08. 100 Firearm discharge restrictions.
No person shall discharge any firearm, except in areas
allowed for game hunting.
SECTION 2. That Section 17.08. 110 Fishing and hunting
restrictions, is hereby REPEALED.
SECTION 3. That Section 11.48.060 Discharging firearms
prohibited, is hereby AMENDED to read as follows:
Sec. 11.48.060 Discharging firearms prohibited.
It is unlawful for any person to discharge firearms of any
description within the corporate limits of the city, excepting at
a regularly licensed shooting gallery, at the Salt Lake City
police target range, the Utah State Armory, at a regularly
conducted school as a part of a supervised course of instruction,
or at a regularly organized gun club shooting range, where the
range and facilities have been approved by the mayor or the
mayor' s designated agent, or, in areas authorized by the State of
Utah for hunting, except that no rifle, handgun, muzzle loader,
or shotgun using slugs or double 00 buckshot shall be discharged
within one mile of any cabin, house or other building regularly
occupied by people and no shotgun shall be discharged within 600
feet (200 yards) of any cabin, home or building regularly
occupied by people. (Prior code Sec. 32-6-2)
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect immediately
upon first publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
9th day of August 1988.
