SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 55 of 2019
(Amending the Salt Lake City Consolidated Fee Schedule
to amend Class 7 Sewer Rates)
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Consolidated Fee Schedule is proposed to be amended to
modify the Class 7 sewer rates charged by the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities; and
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Council approved amendments to the Consolidated Fee
Schedule for Class 7 sewer rates in June 2019, based on the Department's requests for sewer rate
increases for all residents following an in-depth rate study that included the different customer
classes and the costs to provide wastewater service; and
WHEREAS,the rate charged for service for the City's "Class 7" sewer customer class,which
are generally commercial customers, was increased because the rate study showed that these
customers, based on higher volumes of wastewater and/or significant waste strength characteristics,
were not paying the full cost to provide them with sewer service; and
WHEREAS, it was subsequently determined that the rate change was well beyond the
forecasted 18%rate increase and to allow the Department additional time to analyze how best to
implement the rate increase, it proposes that the Consolidated Fee Schedule for Class 7 customers
be adjusted for the remainder of this fiscal year to more closely reflect an 18% increase over last
year's rates as shown in the attached Exhibit"A"; and
WHEREAS,the Salt Lake City Council finds(i) the fees set forth in Exhibit"A" are
necessary, reasonable, and equitable in relation to regulatory and service costs incurred by the City;
and(ii) adoption of this ordinance reasonably furthers the health, safety, and general welfare of the
citizens of Salt Lake City.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. The Salt Lake City Consolidated Fee Schedule shall be, and is hereby amended,
in pertinent part, to reflect the fees set forth in the attached Exhibit"A" relating to Class 7 sewer
rates.
SECTION 2. The official copy of the Salt Lake City Consolidated Fee Schedule shall be
revised to include the fees set forth in the attached Exhibit"A" and a copy of thereof shall be
published on the official Salt Lake City website.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall become effective on the date of its first publication.
