(obstruction of Justice)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 OF TITLE 32 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, BY ADDING A NEW SECTION
32-1-5.1 RELATING TO OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 1 of Title 32 of the Revised
ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, be, and the same hereby is
amended by ADDING a new Section 5.1, relating to obstruction of
justice, to read as follows:
Sec. 32-1-5.1. obstruction of Justice. A person shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor if, with intent to hinder, prevent, or
delay the discovery, apprehension, prosecution, conviction, or
punishment of another for the commission of a crime, he/she:
(1) Conceals an offense from a magistrate, knowing it has
been committed;
(2) Harbors or conceals the offender;
(3) Provides the offender a weapon, transportation,
disguise, or other means for avoiding discovery or apprehension;
(4) Warns such offender of impending discovery or
apprehension; or
(5) Conceals, destroys, or alters any physical evidence
that might aid in the discovery, apprehension, or conviction of
such person; or
(6) Obstructs by force, intimidation, distraction or
deception anyone from performing an act which might aid in the
discovery, apprehension, prosecution or conviction of such
person.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 3rd day of August , 1982.
