No. 61 of 2004
(Adopting the Wasatch Front Regional Council Natural Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan)
AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE WASATCH FRONT REGIONAL COUNCIL
NATURAL HAZARD PRE-DISASTER MITIGATION PLAN AS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL
DISASTER MITIGATION AND COST REDUCTION ACT OF 2000.
WHEREAS, President William J. Clinton signed H.R. 707, the Disaster Mitigation and
Cost Reduction Act of 2000, into law on October 30, 2000.
WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all jurisdictions to be covered
by a Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for Federal Emergency Management
Agency post-disaster funds.
WHEREAS, Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC)has been contracted by the State
of Utah to prepare a Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan covering all of the jurisdictions in the WFRC
area.
WHEREAS, the WFRC Executive Council approved WFRC staff to write the plan on
February 21, 2002.
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is within the WFRC area.
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is concerned about mitigating potential issues from natural
hazards and disasters before they occur.
WHEREAS, the plan identifies potential hazards,potential losses and potential mitigation
measures to limit losses.

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has determined that it would be in the best interest of the
community as a whole to adopt the Natural Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan as it pertains to
the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE
CITY, UTAH, that the attached"Wasatch Front Regional Council Natural Hazard Pre-Disaster
Mitigation Plan"is hereby adopted to meet the requirements of the Disaster Mitigation and Cost
Reduction Act of 2000.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon the date of its first publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah this 10thday of August
2004.
