(Readopting and Updating Alcohol Map#19372)
AN ORDINANCE READOPTING AND UPDATING OFFICIAL CITY (ALCOHOL)
MAP #19372, RELATING TO SPACING AND LOCATION OF CERTAIN ALCOHOL-
RELATED ESTABLISHMENTS.
WHEREAS, Petition 400-00-35 has been filed by the City's Business Licensing office
with the Planning Division requesting that the City readopt and update the Official Salt Lake City
Map #19372 ("alcohol map") regarding the spacing and location of certain alcohol-related
businesses within Salt Lake City; and
WHEREAS, the existing hand-drafted alcohol map was last adopted in 1987, and has not
been updated despite numerous ordinance and policy changes since that date; and
WHEREAS, the policy statement regarding alcohol in the Gateway District is in need of
City Council clarification to expand the classification for the Gateway District under City Code
Section 6.08.120 from a District B classification, allowing one alcohol-related establishment
every 600 feet, to a District A classification, allowing two alcohol-related establishments per
lineal block; and
WHEREAS, the existing alcohol map is a hand-drafted rather than a parcel based map
and is not accessible from the City's Geographic Information System (GIS); and
WHEREAS, the City's Planning Commission held a public hearing in this regard on
August 17, 2000 and said commission and the City's Planning Division have made favorable
recommendations to this Council regarding the proposed changes to the alcohol map;
Now, Therefore, Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Petition No. 400-00-35 be approved and that the City's Official Map
No. 19372 relating to the spacing and locations of regular and temporary Class C beer licensed
establishments and regular and temporary Class B and C licensed private clubs ("alcohol-related
establishments") within Salt Lake City be and the same is hereby updated and readopted to read
as in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof by this reference, to include: (1) all of
the ordinance and policy changes to the said alcohol map since 1987, (2) a clarification of this
Council's policy statement regarding the Gateway District under City Code Section 6.08.120
expanding the Gateway District from a District B classification, allowing one alcohol-related
establishment every 600 feet, to a District A classification, allowing two alcohol-related
establishments per lineal block, and (3) a transfer of the existing alcohol map from a hand-
drafted line-based map to a Geographic Information System (GIS) parcel-based map.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon the date of its first
publication.
