118 of 1989 - Congratulate West High School el�.y - r s, SALT LAKE FY ; R 118 of 1989 A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE ; CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH ! c=- WHEREAS, West High School has recently been honored by the United States Department of =� Education and has received an Outstanding School of Excellence award as part of the national secondary school recognition program; and 0 WHEREAS, West High School is one of only two high schools in the State of Utah and only Le twenty-three high schools in the entire nation to receive a Drug Free Award as part of the national Say No to Drugs program; and 4 WHEREAS, The students, teachers and administrators of West High School have established an outstanding program to educate students about the negative aspects of substance s abuse and the importance of the self-worth and dignity of each individual; and WHEREAS, West High School Principal Harold J. Trussel has been selected as the Principal of the Year for the State of Utah by the PTA and Utah Association of Secondary = School Principals, for his commitment and effectiveness in achieving a superb educational environment at West High School; and WHEREAS, West High School 's commitment to educational excellence and maintaining an environment for learning is a standard to be modeled by other high schools in Salt Lake City and the State of Utah; and WHEREAS, The Mayor and City Council of Salt Lake City wish to recognize the dedication and commitment of the students, teachers, administrators and parents who have worked together to achieve these awards. w, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council and Mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah, :s that we hereby honor and officially congratulate the students, teachers, = administrators and parents of West High School for their achievements in establishing an environment committed to academic excellence and promoting the worth and dignity of each student. ATTEST: ! CI E ORDER UNCIL CHAI PERSON Councilmember Bittner read the resolution and she, the Mayor and Mr. Stepan presented it to Harold Trussel. Mr. Stepan said he appreciated the Mayor' s and Council ' s recognition of these schools. He said the school systems were working hard to do a good job and were grateful for having been recognized by the United States Department of Education. Councilmember Godfrey moved and Councilmember Kirk seconded to adopt Resolution 118 of 1989, which motion carried, all members present voted aye. (R 89-1)
